Migrate from Smile.io

Moving from Smile.io to Ayra means exporting points balances, VIP tiers and referral data from Smile.io as CSV, importing them into Ayra, reconciling the totals, running both apps side by side until they match, and switching the storefront blocks over in one step. It takes a few hours for most stores, migration is free during private beta, and the team runs it with you. Nothing is deleted from Smile.io until you uninstall it.

  • Points balances
  • VIP tier membership
  • Referral codes and pending rewards
  • Customer earn history (CSV)

Typical effort: hours. CSV export from Smile, import into Ayra; balances are reconciled before go-live.

Email is the join key. Each Smile.io export column maps to one Ayra field; anything not listed is kept in the import log but not written to the profile.

  1. Export from Smile.io

In Smile.io, export the customer points balances, VIP tier membership and referral data as CSV. Export the points history too; it is optional for balances but useful for reconciliation.

  2. Map the fields

Match Smile.io columns to Ayra fields using the mapping table. Email is the join key; customers without a Shopify customer record are created as guests and merged on their next login.

  3. Import into Ayra

Upload the CSVs in Ayra → Loyalty → Import (or let the team run it with you during beta). Ayra imports in dry-run mode first and shows the totals it will create.

  4. Reconcile the totals

Compare total outstanding points, member count per tier and pending referral rewards between Smile.io and Ayra's import report. Fix any mapping difference and re-run the dry run until they match.

  5. Run both in parallel

Keep Smile.io widgets live while Ayra's blocks are added to the theme and account hub but hidden. Customers keep earning in Smile.io; the delta is re-imported at cut-over.

  6. Cut over

Re-run the import for the delta since the first export, switch the theme blocks and account hub tabs to Ayra, point customer messages at Ayra, and disable Smile.io's widgets.

  7. Uninstall Smile.io

After the first week on Ayra, when balances and a few redemptions have been verified, uninstall Smile.io. Store credit issued through Shopify stays with the customer either way.

  • Program configuration. Earn rules, tier definitions and reward values are set up in Ayra directly; the defaults are different (store credit, not discount codes). The Loyalty settings reference lists every option.
  • Smile.io email templates and nudges. Ayra’s flows replace them; publish the welcome and points-reminder flows from the templates.
  • Third-party integration state (for example Klaviyo properties Smile.io wrote). Ayra writes its own metafields and tags; update your integrations to read those.
  • Activity rules that do not exist in Ayra (for example earning for social follows). They are listed in the import report as skipped.

Keep Smile.io installed and its widgets live during the import. Add Ayra’s blocks to the theme and the account hub but leave them hidden (the theme editor’s visibility toggle) so customers see one program. Customers keep earning in Smile.io; at cut-over you export again and import only the delta. Redemptions during the parallel period should happen in Smile.io, so the second import reflects them.

Do not run both sets of storefront widgets at once: two balances on the same page is the single most common support ticket during migrations.

  • Delta import run and totals reconciled (outstanding points, members per tier, pending referrals)
  • Ayra blocks made visible; Smile.io widgets disabled in the theme editor
  • Account hub Wallet and Referrals tabs on
  • Welcome and points-reminder flows published; Smile.io emails switched off
  • Referral links tested end to end (old code still resolves)
  • Customer-facing help article updated
  • Smile.io uninstalled after a week of verified balances
