Segmentation
Ayra Segmentation is a Shopify customer segmentation module that builds dynamic segments from RFM, lifetime value, loyalty tier, intent, subscription state and review state on the shared customer profile. Segments sync back to Shopify as customer tags and metafields, so flows, discounts and reports can use them.
What it does
Section titled “What it does”- RFM, LTV, tier, intent, subscription and review state. Segment on recency, frequency and monetary value, lifetime value, loyalty tier, Intent Engine score, subscription status and whether the customer has reviewed.
- Dynamic segments. Customers move in and out as their profile changes. No rebuilding lists.
- Synced as Shopify customer tags and metafields. Segment membership is written to the customer record, so Shopify Segments, themes and other apps can read it.
- Use in flows, discounts and reporting. Target a flow, gate a discount or filter a report by segment, all from the same definitions.
- Cohort views. See how a segment behaves over time, including retention by signup month.
How it connects to other modules
Section titled “How it connects to other modules”Every module reads and writes the same customer profile, so these connections need no integration work.
- Retention Analytics: Every retention report can be cut by segment, because segments and reports read the same profile.
- Lifecycle Flows: Flows target segments directly, and Journey Guard still applies per customer.
- Loyalty & Rewards: Tier membership is a segment, so VIP logic is defined once and used everywhere.
Built on Shopify
Section titled “Built on Shopify”Shopify primitives used: Customer metafields, Tags, Shopify segments. Nothing is injected into the theme.
No single app. Segmentation replaces the segment logic you would otherwise rebuild in each separate app.
How it works day to day
Section titled “How it works day to day”Segmentation has nothing to install on the storefront. Every customer gets a lifecycle stage (new, active, at-risk, lapsed, won back) computed from their signals, and you build segments from any combination of profile fields, signals and module state: tier, wallet balance, intent score, wishlist items, subscription status, open support issue, last order date. Segments update continuously; a customer enters or leaves a segment the moment a signal lands, and that entry or exit is itself a signal that flows and opportunities can use.
Three practical notes:
- Stages are rules you can read. The at-risk and lapsed thresholds default to multiples of your store’s median reorder interval and can be edited per store.
- Segments are not lists. They are live definitions, so there is nothing to refresh or export before a flow runs.
- Shopify segments stay in sync. Ayra writes a small set of customer metafields and tags (see Metafields & metaobjects) so you can reuse Ayra stages inside Shopify’s own customer segments and Shopify Email.
Set up in brief
Section titled “Set up in brief”- Turn the module on; stages compute within minutes for existing customers.
- Review the stage thresholds in Segments → Lifecycle.
- Create one segment you will act on this month (for example “at-risk, Gold tier, no open ticket”) and attach it to a flow or watch it in Analytics.
Every field available to a segment is listed on the Settings reference.
Where to go next
Section titled “Where to go next”- Setup: turn the module on and configure it.
- Storefront & account blocks: what shoppers see and where it goes.
- Settings reference: every setting, in one table.
